導師計劃(只限全日制學生)(只限英文版)

The principle of our mentorship programme is to match mentees with similar interests, aspiration of mentees and expectations of mentors, to accelerate the personal and professional development of mentees. This is achieved by providing mentees with advice, guideline and feedback from mentors in the healthcare industry.  

Participation to the mentorship program is voluntary basis and the partnership is based on mutual trust. The mentoring relationship officially end after from year from October – September. It is expected to meet up at least 4 times throughout the year. 

Objective of the programme

  • To coach students and give advice related to career development

  • To discuss career plans and potential obstacles during the study journey

  • To provide opportunities for social, professional and business connection

  • To share experiences gained through own development process and work

  • To nurture a community of local Public Health Practitioners

Roles and responsibilities

​Our mentors and mentees embrace different roles and responsibilities.

As a MENTOR, you can take on the following role(s):

As an adviser

You consider the goals of your mentee and discuss the steps required to achieve them.

As an initiator

You open up new perspectives, provide stimuli for goals and paths of development, point out underdeveloped or unrealised potential and encourage the ideas and initiatives of your mentee.

As an arbiter of knowledge

You address specific issues, offer your mentee advice and bring your own expertise and skills to the table.

As a MENTEE, you can take on the role:

As an initiator: To take initiative to drive the relationship and be responsible for own career development and planning

Specific responsibilities:

  • ​To have clear expectation on the programme and initiate a plan of activities that matches the expectation

  • To provide feedback about the mentorship relationship and be open to receiving feedback with the mentor regarding the career plan and potential obstacles. When providing feedback, be honest, yet tactful. Always remember using the proper tone

  • Be polite and courteous; be responsive in emails/ meetings and ask questions

  • To provide feedback about the mentorship with the School by completing the programme survey in December and June.

    • Full-Time MScEPB students

    • BScCHP & BScPH Students

  • Interested in building up networks for future development

  • Looking for advice on career planning

  • Want to broaden your perspectives

  • Opening Mixer - a social event for mentors and mentees to meet & officially kick start the programme

Mentoring process

  • For a Master's Programme, the applicant shall have:"
    graduated from a recognized university and obtained a bachelor’s degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class or achieving an average grade of not lower than “B”; or completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
  • For a Postgraduate Diploma Programme, the applicants shall have:"
    graduated from a recognized university and obtained a bachelor's degree.
  • To fulfill the University's minimum English language requirements for admission to postgraduate programmes applicants shall have:
    obtained a degree from a university in Hong Kong or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English; or achieved scores in the following English Language tests as indicated: i. TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based); ii. IELTS (Academic): 6.5; iii. GMAT (Verbal): Band 21; or obtained a pass grade in English in one of the following examinations: i. Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (AS Level); ii. Hong Kong Higher Level Examination; iii. CUHK Matriculation Examination; iv. General Certificate of Education Examination (GCE) Advanced Level (A-Level)/Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS-Level); or​ achieved Level 4 or above in the English Language subject of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination; or obtained a recognised professional qualification, provide that the examination was conducted in English. ​Notes: This is based on the understanding that English is the medium of instruction degree programmes offered by universities in Hong Kong. Moreover, graduates from universities in Hong Kong should have fulfilled the English language requirements of the institution concerned when they were admitted to the degree programmes. The CUHK Graduate School may request applicants to provide additional supporting documents to prove their English proficiency. TOEFL and IELTS are considered valid for two years from the test date. GMAT is considered valid for five years from the test date.
  • For Bachelor graduates who are obtaining the degree in the current academic year:
    Those who expect to obtain a Bachelor's degree in the current academic year may also apply for admission. ​ Applications with degrees awarded by overseas universities by distance learning or by completing a curriculum of short duration may be required to provide assessment reports from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) on the Level of qualification obtained.​
  • For Bachelor graduates who are obtaining the degree in the current academic year:
    Those who expect to obtain a Bachelor's degree in the current academic year may also apply for admission. ​ Applications with degrees awarded by overseas universities by distance learning or by completing a curriculum of short duration may be required to provide assessment reports from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) on the Level of qualification obtained.​
